Army Commanders Review Pakistan’s Security Situation at 277th Corps Commanders’ Conference

RAWALPINDI, October 2, 2026: Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces (COAS & CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir chaired the 277th Corps Commanders’ Conference at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, where senior military commanders reviewed Pakistan’s prevailing security environment and operational preparedness.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the conference began with Fateha for members of the armed forces, law enforcement agencies and civil society who lost their lives while serving and protecting the country. The participants paid tribute to their sacrifices.

The forum reaffirmed the need to maintain a high level of readiness and discussed Pakistan’s stated right to self-defence and targeted action against terrorism emanating from Afghanistan.

The commanders also reviewed ongoing intelligence-based counter-terrorism operations conducted by law enforcement agencies. While appreciating the sustained operations, the forum stressed that security efforts should be complemented by non-kinetic measures.

These measures, according to ISPR, include strengthening people-centric governance at the grassroots level, improving engagement with the public, dismantling the terror-crime nexus and enhancing police capabilities under the framework of the National Action Plan and Vision Azm-e-Istehkam.

The conference also discussed internal stability. The forum stated that any attempt to create unrest or a situation similar to the events of May 9 would be dealt with through what it described as decisive action and the rule of law.

On regional security, the forum welcomed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, describing it as contributing to longstanding strategic and collective defence relations among the three countries.

The commanders also expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia over Houthi attacks and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to the security and sanctity of the Haramain Sharifain.

The conference further reaffirmed Pakistan’s position on Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), with participants reiterating support for resolving the Kashmir dispute in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

In his concluding remarks, Field Marshal Asim Munir commended military formations for their operational preparedness and professionalism. He directed commanders to continue strengthening intelligence-based operations and improving combat capabilities through modern technology, enhanced training and multi-domain integration.

The COAS & CDF expressed confidence that Pakistan’s armed forces, with what ISPR described as the unwavering support of the nation, remain prepared to safeguard the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national security.
