US delegation reviews Pakistan’s role, regional security challenges and Islamabad’s experience during the two-decade Afghanistan conflict.
RAWALPINDI, September 28, 2026: A delegation of the U.S. Afghanistan War Commission, led by Co-Chairs Shamila N. Chaudhary and Dr. Colin F. Jackson, held a meeting with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces (COAS & CDF), at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.
The delegation is conducting a review of the United States’ two-decade engagement in Afghanistan, including Pakistan’s role, regional security dynamics and developments in Afghanistan relevant to the Commission’s assessment.
During the meeting, Field Marshal Asim Munir shared Pakistan’s perspective on the security environment surrounding the Afghanistan conflict and highlighted the challenges faced by Pakistan during the prolonged conflict.
He underscored the importance of incorporating regional perspectives and Pakistan’s experience into assessments of the conflict’s strategic, diplomatic and operational dimensions.
The U.S. delegation acknowledged Pakistan’s longstanding role and sacrifices during the Afghanistan conflict and appreciated the country’s continued contribution to regional peace and stability.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to discuss Pakistan’s experience and the broader regional context as the Commission undertakes its assessment of the U.S. engagement in Afghanistan.
