WhatsApp Introduces New Cloud Backup Option for iPhone Users, iCloud No Longer the Only Choice
Whats App is developing a new cloud backup feature for iPhone users that will allow chat backups to be stored directly on WhatsApp’s own servers instead of relying solely on Apple’s iCloud.
According to reports from Whats App Beta Info, the feature is currently under development and is not yet available to beta testers. Once launched, it will give iPhone users greater flexibility in managing their chat backups.
At present, WhatsApp on iOS stores chat backups in Apple’s iCloud. However, Apple offers only 5GB of free iCloud storage, which is shared across device backups, photos, documents, and other apps. As a result, users with large media collections often run out of storage space, making regular WhatsApp backups difficult.
To address this limitation, Whats App is working on its own cloud backup service. The new feature will allow users to choose whether they want to save their chats to iCloud or Whats App’s dedicated cloud servers.
Reports indicate that iCloud will remain the default backup option, meaning users who prefer Apple’s service will not need to change any settings. Those looking for an alternative, however, will be able to switch to Whats App’s cloud once the feature becomes available.
The upcoming feature is expected to provide users with greater storage flexibility, improved backup management, and additional privacy options. WhatsApp has not yet announced an official release date for the new service.
