Pakistani delegate Munir Akram has emphasized that the addition of new permanent members to the Council is not a solution to the problem but a problem in itself.
According to the international news organization, these views were expressed by Munir Akram, the Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations, in the discussion regarding equal representation in the Security Council and increasing the number of permanent members in the General Assembly.
Munir Akram, representing Pakistan, categorically stated that new permanent seats in the UN Security Council will increase the problems.
Pakistani delegate Muneer Akram while demanding equitable and accountable reforms in the Security Council complained that the Council has so far failed to respond effectively to threats to global peace and security.
Munir Akram explained that the reason for this failure of the Security Council was the failure of the permanent members to agree on the solution of the problems and said that in such a situation, with the inclusion of more new permanent members, the organization will become more paralyzed and dependent on the agreement of the permanent members.
Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Manirakaram said that the addition of new permanent members will not be a solution to the problem but will emerge as a problem in itself.
The United Nations Security Council currently has 5 permanent members, including the United States, Great Britain, China, France and Russia, while the number of non-permanent members is 10.
The United Nations elects five new non-permanent members every year who represent all regions of the world. All 193 countries of the General Assembly are consulted for this election.
It should be remembered that the resolutions presented on Gaza in the United Nations have been continuously vetoed by the world powers, which gave the impression that the council is under the control of the big powers.
