Tamil Nadu CM Vijay’s Wife Sangeetha Withdraws Divorce Petition, Family Court Closes Case
Chennai: Sangeetha, the wife of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor C. Joseph Vijay, has withdrawn the divorce petition she had filed before a family court, bringing the ongoing legal proceedings to an end.
According to Indian media reports, Sangeetha appeared before the family court via video conference on Friday and informed the judge that she no longer wished to pursue the divorce case. Following her statement, the court granted permission to withdraw the petition and formally disposed of the matter.
The court order stated that Sangeetha had submitted an official application seeking withdrawal of the petition, after which her statement was recorded. Vijay’s legal counsel raised no objection to the request.
The family court also clarified that Sangeetha would remain free to file a fresh petition in the future if she considered it necessary.
Sangeetha had originally filed for divorce in February 2026, alleging that Vijay had maintained an inappropriate relationship with a female actor. In the petition, she claimed she first became aware of the alleged relationship in 2021 and that although Vijay had promised to end it, the situation allegedly continued.
The petition further alleged that Vijay gradually distanced her from both his personal and professional life and frequently appeared with the actress during overseas trips and public events. Sangeetha claimed that photographs of their appearances together were widely shared on social media.
She also stated that the circumstances caused emotional distress and public embarrassment for her and the couple’s two children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Sasha. The petition additionally accused Vijay of imposing financial restrictions and limiting her freedom of movement.
With the withdrawal of the petition, the current divorce proceedings have officially concluded, although the court has left the option open for Sangeetha to initiate fresh legal action in the future if required.
