Police imposed a nighttime curfew in the Syrian city of Homs as tensions flared in the city, where people from different sects are protesting.
According to a Reuters report, Homs authorities said the reason for the curfew was protests by minorities and different sects, while the demands of the protesters were not immediately confirmed or the nature of the tension was not known.
State media reported that the curfew was being imposed overnight from 6 p.m. local time to 8 a.m. on Thursday.
According to foreign media, the country’s new leaders have repeatedly expressed their determination to protect minority religious groups, as there are fears that former rebels who are now in government may try to impose their own hardline measures.
