Asim Munir, Syria FM Discuss Defence and Regional Security

RAWALPINDI, August 21, 2026: Syrian Foreign Minister H.E. Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani, accompanied by a delegation, met with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Friday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the meeting focused on matters of mutual interest, the evolving regional security situation and opportunities to further strengthen defence and security cooperation between Pakistan and Syri’a.

Field Marshal Asim Munir highlighted Pakistan’s longstanding fraternal relationship with Syria and shared Islamabad’s perspective on global peace and regional stability.

The army chief emphasized the importance of greater cooperation and joint efforts to address common security challenges and promote stability in the region.

During the meeting, the Syrian foreign minister appreciated the professional contributions of Pakistan’s armed forces toward promoting regional peace and stability.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation, particularly in the fields of defence and security.

The meeting comes as Pakistan continues to engage with regional partners on matters concerning security, stability and enhanced bilateral cooperation.
