Riyadh:The decision was made at a high-level meeting in the Saudi capital Riyadh.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced after the talks that both countries would take immediate steps to reactivate diplomatic missions. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also called for the restoration of diplomatic staff.
In the past, the two countries had limited each other’s diplomatic staff due to sanctions and disputes.
The talks began at the direction of US President Donald Trump, with the aim of taking steps to end the Ukraine war.
The US imposed sanctions on Russian diplomatic staff in 2022, after which the US embassy staff in Moscow was also reduced.
The restoration of diplomatic relations is expected to reduce tensions between Washington and Moscow, pave the way for further diplomatic negotiations to end the war in Ukraine, and make the embassies of both countries fully operational.
