Pakistan urges immediate ceasefire and lasting peace in Gaza at UN

Pakistan has called for an immediate and complete ceasefire in Gaza at the UN and urged the international community to make the establishment of lasting peace in the occupied Palestinian territories its priority.

Pakistan’s Alternate Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar, said during a briefing at the Security Council that Israel’s aggression in the West Bank should be stopped immediately and humanitarian aid should not be used as a weapon under any circumstances.

Stressing the need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, he said that the root cause of unrest in the Middle East is Israel’s illegal occupation, and the international community should give top priority to establishing lasting peace in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Asim Iftikhar called on the Security Council to take a strong stand against the forced displacement of Palestinians.
