Saudi Environment Minister Meets PM Shehbaz Sharif to Boost Agriculture and Water Cooperation
ISLAMABAD, August 28, 2026: Saudi Arabia and Pakistan have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in agriculture, water management and food security during a high-level meeting between Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Minister for Environment, Water and Agriculture Engineer Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadley.
The Saudi minister called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad on Friday.
Welcoming the Saudi dignitary, the prime minister highlighted the deep-rooted and fraternal relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. He also conveyed his warmest regards to Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the recently signed Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and Pakistan had further strengthened ties among the three countries and conveyed a message of unity and peace across the region.
The prime minister emphasized that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, as strategic partners, should now focus on expanding their economic and agricultural cooperation to transform their longstanding relationship into a stronger trade and investment partnership.
He welcomed the constructive engagement between the two countries, particularly regarding Pakistan’s agricultural exports to Saudi Arabia.
The two sides also discussed ways to improve agricultural productivity in Pakistan through modern technology, research and development, and more efficient utilization of water resources.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that a delegation of Pakistani agricultural experts would soon visit Riyadh to continue discussions and explore the full potential of bilateral cooperation.
The Saudi minister thanked the prime minister for the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation. He reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Pakistan in agriculture, water management and food security.
The meeting was attended by Federal Ministers Rana Tanveer Hussain, Mohammad Aurangzeb, Atta Tarar, Jam Kamal Khan, Musadik Malik and Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, along with Dr. Syed Tauqir Shah, Bilal Azhar Kiyani, SAPM Tariq Fatemi and senior government officials.
