Maryam Nawaz Removes Jhang DC Over PERA Vehicle Controversy

Maryam Nawaz Removes Jhang Deputy Commissioner Over PERA Vehicle Use in MPA’s Convoy
Punjab Chief Minister orders administrative action after a PERA vehicle is spotted in a rally reportedly arranged for MPA Saqib Chadhar’s protocol.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has ordered the removal of Jhang Deputy Commissioner Babar Sahib Din from his post after a Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (PERA) vehicle was reportedly seen participating in a car rally linked to the protocol of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MPA Saqib Chadhar.
According to a notification issued by Punjab’s Services and General Administration Department on October 25, 2026, Babar Sahib Din, a Pakistan Administrative Service officer of BS-18, has been transferred with immediate effect and directed to report to the department. He has also been placed on the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) list until further orders.
Maryam Nawaz Calls Use of Official Resources a Violation
In a statement shared on her X account, Maryam Nawaz said a video showed a PERA vehicle taking part in a car rally. She stressed that using the resources of a regulatory authority beyond its officially defined mandate constituted a serious violation.
The chief minister said the use of government resources for inappropriate purposes was contrary to established policy, prompting immediate administrative action against the deputy commissioner.
However, the available information does not establish the precise role played by Babar Sahib Din in the alleged use of the PERA vehicle. No further details about an inquiry or any findings against the officer were included in the reported notification.
Saqib Chadhar Previously Faced Allegations From Actress Momina Iqbal
The development comes months after Pakistani actress Momina Iqbal accused MPA Saqib Chadhar of harassment and threats in May 2026. According to the earlier report, she filed a police application on May 22, and the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) registered a case on June 5.
Chadhar’s lawyer, Ali Ashfaq, rejected the allegations as baseless and said the relevant evidence would be presented before the court.
The latest administrative action concerns the reported use of a PERA vehicle during the rally. The available information does not establish any direct connection between that matter and the earlier allegations involving the actress.
The incident has renewed questions about the use of public resources, official accountability and the responsibilities of administrative officers in Punjab. Further details about the circumstances surrounding the vehicle’s participation and any subsequent investigation remain unclear.
