Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye Activate Makkah Alliance Defense Measures
Riyadh, October 5, 2026: Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye have agreed to move toward the immediate implementation of collective defense measures under the Makkah Alliance for Defense following an emergency meeting in Riyadh.
The Strategic-Political and Defense Committee of the alliance convened on October 5 to review growing security threats facing Saudi Arabia, including attacks targeting cities and civilian and economic infrastructure.

A major decision at the meeting was the appointment of Lieutenant General Nauman Mahmood (Ret.) of Pakistan as the first Secretary-General of the Makkah Alliance for Defense for a three-year term.
The three member states welcomed his appointment and expressed confidence that his leadership would contribute to strengthening the alliance and advancing its objectives.
The committee strongly condemned the attempted targeting of Makkah and Madinah, describing any threat to the Kingdom’s security and territorial integrity as unacceptable.
Pakistan and Türkiye praised the Saudi Armed Forces for their vigilance, operational readiness and professionalism in responding to threats against the Kingdom.

Military Forces and Capabilities to Be Deployed
The committee reviewed recommendations emerging from political and military consultations held before the emergency session and approved measures aimed at strengthening collective defense.
Under the decisions reached in Riyadh, the member states will move immediately toward providing agreed military forces and capabilities and facilitating their rapid deployment in Saudi Arabia.

The deployment will take place in accordance with approved arrangements and the national legislation of the participating countries.
The three countries said the move would strengthen military readiness, integration and their collective ability to counter emerging security threats.
The parties further reaffirmed that the security of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye is interconnected and forms part of their collective security framework.
They said translating the Makkah Agreement for Joint Defense into practical measures would enhance deterrence and demonstrate the three countries’ unity and determination to defend their sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.
