US Will Not Send Ground Troops to Change Iran’s Government, Says Vice President JD Vance
WASHINGTON: US Vice President JD Vance has said that the United States will not deploy ground troops to Iran to pursue regime change, stressing that diplomacy remains the only sustainable solution to the ongoing tensions.
Speaking during a podcast interview, Vance argued that military action cannot provide a lasting resolution to the conflict with Iran. He said critics of negotiations have failed to present a realistic alternative beyond continuous and ineffective bombing campaigns.
The vice president also appeared to contradict recent remarks attributed to President Donald Trump, stating that Washington has no intention of sending troops to overthrow Iran’s government. He emphasized that any political change within Iran should be determined solely by the Iranian people.
Vance said the US military strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities were aimed at achieving limited strategic objectives rather than launching a broader campaign. He added that Washington’s primary focus is to keep the Strait of Hormuz open and ensure the uninterrupted flow of global oil and gas supplies.
He further claimed that certain elements within the Israeli government had spent significant resources on a foreign influence campaign in the United States to undermine a potential agreement with Iran.
Despite such efforts, Vance said he would continue to prioritize American national interests and support diplomatic engagement over prolonged military escalation.
His remarks came after reports citing US officials claimed that President Donald Trump had begun considering the possibility of deploying ground forces to Iran.
