New York – May 2026: The Met Gala 2026 once again served as the world’s grandest stage for fashion, art, and culture, but this year, Indian representation captured exceptional global attention — particularly through Isha Ambani’s breathtaking golden saree, which emerged as one of the evening’s most talked-about ensembles.

Held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, this year’s Met Gala theme, “Costume Art,” encouraged designers to transform clothing into artistic masterpieces rather than mere fashion statements. In perfect harmony with this vision, Isha Ambani wore a specially designed saree by celebrated Indian couturier Gaurav Gupta, blending traditional Indian craftsmanship with contemporary elegance.

According to the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre, the luxurious saree was crafted by more than 50 expert artisans and required approximately 1,200 hours to complete. The masterpiece featured pure gold threads intricately woven into the fabric, while its design drew inspiration from fresco art, seamlessly merging heritage artistry with modern couture.

Far more than a fashion statement, the saree symbolized India’s rich cultural legacy, artisanal excellence, and regal traditions. Complementing the ensemble, Isha adorned priceless heirloom jewelry from her mother Nita Ambani’s collection, adding even greater magnificence to her appearance.

Indian presence at Met Gala 2026 extended well beyond Bollywood celebrities this year, with business leaders, social figures, entrepreneurs, and members of influential families also making remarkable appearances. Filmmaker Karan Johar attended the prestigious event for the first time, showcasing a look that fused Indian artistry, zardozi craftsmanship, and contemporary tailoring.
