Photo-sharing platform Instagram has introduced new features for its Direct Messages (DMs).
According to the announcement made by the company on Monday, users on the social media platform will now be able to name their chats as they wish and will also be able to share their current location like on Snapchat.
Instagram, while talking in detail about its new features in a blog post, said that users will be able to name their chats as they wish in DMs. This feature will appear as ‘Nicknames’ after tapping on the profile in the chat.
The same feature also gives the option of who will have the authority to edit the name of the chat. These options will have three settings: 1) Everyone in the chat, 2) People you follow and 3) Only you.
This feature will only appear in DMs and will not affect the username anywhere else on the platform.
Another feature being introduced on Instagram is location sharing, which is said to work like Snapchat’s Snap Map.
According to the Meta sub-platform, this feature will allow users to share their current location, but the shared location will be valid for one hour, after which the location will expire.
Using this feature, users will be able to share their exact location in crowded places.
