Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will give dinner to the MPs of the coalition parties today.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will host a dinner in honor of the allies at 7.30 pm this evening on the issue of important legislation in Parliament this week.
Apart from all the allied parties, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) has also been invited to the dinner.
According to sources, JUI(F) has not yet taken any decision regarding participation or not.
According to government sources, the Prime Minister will take the members into confidence on the country’s economic situation and the proposed legislation.
The government also wants to bring a constitutional reform package including increasing the number of judges.
Earlier on September 3, Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq had delayed the bill to increase the number of judges in the Supreme Court, which was presented by the government member Barrister Daniyal Chaudhry.
He had said that the purpose of the amendment bill was to ensure delivery of speedy justice, later the PTI had opposed Barrister Daniyal’s bill.
On August 28, the federal government had decided to increase the number of Supreme Court judges to 23.
Apart from the Chief Justice, the number of judges of the Supreme Court was proposed to be 22.
According to the bill, increasing the number of judges will help solve the pending cases of the Supreme Court.
In the bill, it was decided that in the appointment of judges, their expertise in environment, international trade and cybercrime laws will be taken into account. Agreed on the need to increase the approved number of judges, however consideration of the bill in this regard was deferred till their next session.
Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar said that the number of judges can be determined based on the pending details, we may need to increase it from 17 to 24.
On April 27, the number of cases awaiting decisions in the Supreme Court had crossed 57,000.
A report released in 2022 said that the country’s high and lower courts were dealing with a huge backlog of 2.144 million pending cases as 4.12 million cases were decided during 2021 and 4 million 60 thousand new cases were filed.
At the beginning of 2021, a total of 21 lakh 60 thousand cases were pending in all courts.
