Billions of rupees have been revealed in the procurement of medicines and medical equipment in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department. The report of the investigation committee established by the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has come out. The former Health Advisor, former Health Secretary and 15 other officials have been held responsible for the corruption.
Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur had formed a high-level investigation committee headed by Special Assistant for Anti-Corruption Brigadier (R) Musadiq Abbasi to investigate corruption worth billions of rupees in the Health Department.
The inquiry report prepared by the investigation committee has revealed corruption worth billions of rupees in the procurement of medicines and medical equipment in the Health Department.
According to the inquiry report, medicines and medical equipment worth Rs 4.44 billion and 8.44 million were purchased in the financial year 2023-24, of which Rs 1.90 billion and 4.5 billion were embezzled.
According to the inquiry report, purchases worth Rs 4.44 billion and 8.4 million were also made unnecessarily. 81 firms were identified for the purchase of medicines for government hospitals. These companies were supposed to purchase 1,300 different medicines and equipment.
According to the document, orders for 8 to 10 non-emergency items were given to only 14 companies, which cost crores of rupees.
In its report, the inquiry committee has held the former health advisor, former health secretary and 15 other officials responsible for corruption.
According to the report, the inquiry committee has recommended departmental disciplinary action against the officials. It has also been recommended to send the case to the Anti-Corruption Department or any other investigative agency for further investigation.
Health Department sources say that an inquiry into the matter is underway, and departmental action will be taken against the officers involved after the inquiry report is received.
