Ayesha Omar Calls for End to Victim-Blaming in Sexual Violence Cas
Pakistani actress Ayesha Omar has spoken out against the tendency to question victims of sexual violence, arguing that greater attention should be directed toward the perpetrators and the reasons behind such crimes.
Ayesha Omar shared a post on her Instagram Story highlighting how women and children who experience sexual violence are often subjected to questions about their clothing, routines, whereabouts and decisions rather than receiving support and protection.
The post also pointed out that sexual violence can affect women, children, men, animals and even deceased individuals, challenging the idea that a victim’s clothing or presence outside the home can be considered an explanation for such crimes.
The central question raised in the post was why society focuses on the behavior of victims instead of asking why men commit sexual violence in the first place.
By sharing the message, Omar drew attention to the broader issue of victim-blaming and called for greater focus on accountability, prevention and the conduct of perpetrators.
Her comments come amid continued public discussion surrounding cases of sexual violence and concerns about the treatment of victims, access to justice and accountability for alleged perpetrators.
