Cristiano Ronaldo Handed 30-Day Ban and €255 Fine Over Portugal Camp Dispute

ISLAMABAD: Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly been handed a 30-day suspension and a €255 fine by the Portuguese Football Federation’s disciplinary council following a dispute involving national team coach Jorge Jesus and his departure from the team camp.

According to the report, the disciplinary council found that Ronaldo had deliberately violated the code of conduct. Proceedings in the case were initiated on October 9, with details of the incident emerging later.

The controversy reportedly arose ahead of Portugal’s Nations League match against Denmark in Copenhagen, when Ronaldo left the national team camp following disagreements with the coach.

The dispute followed Portugal’s earlier match against Norway, during which Ronaldo was reportedly included among the substitutes rather than being brought onto the pitch.

Ronaldo alleged that the coach had failed to honour promises concerning his playing time on two occasions. However, the coach denied that any such agreement had been made.

The Portuguese star later explained that he had been advised not to play matches abroad but refused to accept the suggestion. He also claimed that he had been told he would play for 30 minutes against Norway but was never called onto the field.

Ronaldo further alleged that statements made during a press conference did not reflect what had previously been agreed. He subsequently apologised to his teammates for leaving the national team camp.

The federation’s disciplinary statement did not clarify which matches or activities would be covered by the 30-day suspension. It also remained unclear whether any time already served under a provisional suspension would count towards the final penalty.

Ronaldo has stated that he would remain available for Portugal after completing his suspension, provided he was fit to play. Portuguese Football Federation President Pedro Proença has also expressed a desire for the matter to be resolved and for the star forward to return to the national team.

Ronaldo, Portugal’s all-time leading goalscorer and most-capped player, made his international debut in 2003. He has continued to play a central role in Portuguese football, although he has recently suggested that the current year could potentially be the final one of his playing career.

The reported disciplinary action marks another chapter in the dispute between the veteran forward and the national team management, with the details of the suspension’s implementation still requiring clarification.
