Jannat Mirza AI Video Sparks Call for Action Over Digital Privacy
Pakistani TikToker and actress Jannat Mirza has raised concerns over an AI-generated fake video featuring her, saying the unauthorized use of a person’s face is a serious violation of digital privacy.
The manipulated video, which circulated on social media, appeared to show Mirza with an unidentified man. Reacting to the footage through an Instagram Story, she said she saw nothing humorous about it and expressed concern over the potential consequences of creating such content without consent.
Mirza warned that while her face was being used in the video today, similar technology could be misused against any other woman tomorrow. She also pointed out that women who are not active on social media could face similar violations without even knowing that their pictures were being misused.
The issue also drew a response from Punjab Assembly member Hina Parvez Butt, who called for action against the unauthorized use of women’s photographs and faces.
Butt said artificial intelligence has become an important technology, but its misuse should not become a means of harming someone’s dignity, reputation or privacy. She urged the relevant authorities to take effective action against such incidents.
She also advised victims to preserve evidence, including screenshots and original links, while avoiding further circulation of the objectionable material. According to her, such cases should be reported to the relevant cybercrime authorities, while women in Punjab can also seek guidance from the Punjab Women Protection Authority.
The controversy surrounding the AI-generated video has once again highlighted concerns about consent, digital privacy and the misuse of artificial intelligence to create misleading content involving individuals without their permission.
