PM Shehbaz Sharif Condemns Attempted Drone Attack on Makkah
ISLAMABAD, September 16, 2026: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly condemned the attempted drone attack targeting the holy site of Makkah Al-Mukarramah, describing the incident as a reprehensible and unforgivable act.
In a statement shared on his X timeline on Wednesday, the prime minister said the people of Pakistan were deeply saddened and perturbed by the incident.
“I condemn in the strongest possible terms the dastardly and heinous attempted drone attack against the Holy Site of Makkah Al-Mukarramah,” he said, expressing profound anguish over the attempted attack.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also praised the Royal Saudi Armed Forces for their swift response, commending their vigilance, courage and professionalism in dealing with the incident.
PM Urges Maximum Restraint
The prime minister reiterated his appeal to all parties involved in regional tensions to exercise maximum restraint and avoid further escalation.
He said the region had already suffered extensively because of conflict, stressing that dialogue and diplomacy remained the only sustainable path towards achieving peace.
Pakistan Reaffirms Support for Saudi Arabia
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, particularly in safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He also emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to the security and sanctity of the Haramain Sharifain, saying this responsibility remained deeply important to every Pakistani.
Pakistan’s statement comes amid heightened regional tensions, with Islamabad continuing to call for restraint, dialogue and diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation.
