PM takes notice of load-shedding, directs no area to face outage of over two hours
ISLAMABAD, September 11, 2026: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has taken notice of increased electricity load-shedding in different parts of the country and directed authorities to ensure that no area experiences power outages lasting more than two hours.
The prime minister issued the directive while chairing a high-level meeting on power load management, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.
The meeting was informed that electricity generation had declined due to the prevailing regional situation, tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and transportation challenges affecting the supply of Regasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG).
The resulting reduction in power generation has created a gap between electricity demand and supply, requiring load management across the country.
Prime Minister Shehbaz directed the relevant authorities to take immediate steps to address disruptions in RLNG supplies and ensure the effective utilization of all available energy resources.
He emphasized that despite the challenges, electricity consumers should not face load-shedding of more than two hours in any area.
Consumer Grievance Committees Ordered
The prime minister also ordered the establishment of Consumer Grievance Redressal Committees at the level of power distribution companies (DISCOs) to resolve complaints related to electricity supply and other consumer issues.
He directed that the committees should include public representatives and become fully operational within one week.
The meeting was informed that consumers can register electricity-related complaints through the 118 helpline. Once a complaint is registered, consumers receive a token number along with an estimated timeframe for its resolution.
Rain-Related Power Disruptions
Officials told the meeting that, apart from six electricity consumers in Rajanpur district, no consumers across the country were currently facing power supply disruptions caused by monsoon rains.
The meeting was attended by Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Khan Cheema, Climate Change Minister Musadik Malik, Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, Power Division Minister Sardar Awais Leghari, Prime Minister’s Advisor Rana Sanaullah, Minister of State for Finance and Railways Bilal Azhar Kayani and other senior officials.
