Hollywood in Shock: ‘Heroes’ Star Hayden Panettiere Dies at 36
Hayden Panettiere, the American actress best known for her roles in Heroes and Nashville, has died at the age of 36. Her representative confirmed her death, although no cause of death was immediately disclosed.
Panettiere began her career as a child performer and went on to build a successful career across television and film. She rose to international fame as cheerleader Claire Bennet in the hit superhero drama Heroes and later earned widespread recognition for playing Juliette Barnes in the musical drama series Nashville.
Her father, Skip Panettiere, expressed profound grief following her death and asked the public to respect the family’s privacy as they come to terms with the loss.
In a statement remembering his daughter, Skip described Hayden as an extraordinary light and a strong personality who brought immense love and happiness to those who knew her, as well as to millions who watched her on screen.
Beyond television, Panettiere appeared in several popular films, including Remember the Titans, Raising Helen, Ice Princess and Scream 4. She later reprised her role as Kirby Reed in the Scream franchise in the 2023 film.
Panettiere had also spoken publicly about some of the difficult chapters of her personal life. Her memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, published earlier this year, explored her experiences with postpartum depression, addiction and recovery, trauma, domestic violence and other deeply personal struggles.
She had previously discussed her battle with alcohol use and postpartum depression in interviews, bringing greater public attention to the challenges she faced away from the spotlight.
Panettiere was the mother of a daughter, Kaya Klitschko, born in 2014 during her relationship with former heavyweight boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko.
Her death comes just days after her 37th birthday. The loss is also a painful reminder for the family following the death of her younger brother, Jansen Panettiere, who died suddenly in February 2023 at the age of 28.
Hayden Panettiere leaves behind a career that spanned decades and a lasting legacy through some of television and cinema’s most recognizable characters.
