Iran’s Supreme Leader Appoints New Top Military Commanders
Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has approved a major reshuffle in the country’s senior military leadership, appointing new commanders to key positions in the armed forces and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
According to Iranian media reports, Major General Ali Abdollahi has been appointed as the new Chief of the General Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces.
Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi has been named Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, while Major General Amir Kioumars Heydari has been assigned the position of Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces.
Reports further stated that Dr. Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr will serve as a political adviser to Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.
The appointments come amid significant changes in Iran’s senior military command structure and are being viewed as an important development in the country’s defence establishment.
With the approval of the Supreme Leader, the newly appointed commanders are expected to assume responsibilities at some of Iran’s most influential military institutions.
The appointment of Ali Abdollahi as Chief of the General Staff and Ahmad Vahidi as IRGC commander marks a significant change in Iran’s top military leadership. Meanwhile, Zolghadr’s appointment as political adviser could give him a more prominent role in advising the Supreme Leader on political affairs.
The leadership changes come at a sensitive time for Iran, as the country continues to navigate complex regional security and diplomatic developments.
Pakistan Invites Iranian Officials to Islamabad
Separately, Pakistan has invited Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf to visit Islamabad for talks, according to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei.
The invitation comes as Pakistan continues diplomatic engagement with Iran amid broader regional developments.
