Qatar Breaks Silence: No US-Iran Deal Yet, But Major Breakthrough Could Come Soon
DOHA, August 4: Qatar has confirmed that no final agreement has yet been reached between the United States and Iran, although officials say the situation could change within the coming hours or days as diplomatic efforts continue.
Speaking during a weekly media briefing, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al Ansari said all parties involved remain committed to reaching an acceptable agreement, with the immediate priority being the revival of negotiations and reducing regional tensions.
Al Ansari emphasized that restoring diplomacy is essential and stressed that a ceasefire remains a key requirement for meaningful progress. He urged all sides to avoid any actions that could further escalate the situation, warning that new military attacks would only undermine efforts to stabilize the region.
The spokesperson also highlighted Qatar’s commitment to ensuring freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, describing the waterway as critical for global trade and energy supplies. He said protecting commercial shipping and preventing attacks on vessels remain top priorities.
According to Al Ansari, Qatar, Pakistan, and Oman are working together as mediators, facilitating communication between Washington and Tehran, exchanging proposals and draft agreements, and promoting confidence-building measures aimed at reviving dialogue.
He added that the primary objective of ongoing diplomatic initiatives is to prevent further escalation, keep the Strait of Hormuz fully open for international shipping, and bring all parties back to the negotiating table.
The Qatari official confirmed that diplomatic contacts and mediation efforts with all relevant stakeholders are continuing as regional and international actors seek a peaceful resolution to the ongoing dispute.
