PM Shehbaz Sharif Leads High-Level Pakistan Delegation at Iran Supreme Leader’s Funeral

TEHRAN, July 3, 2026: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif attended the funeral of the late Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, in Tehran on Friday at the invitation of Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian.

Leading a high-level Pakistani delegation, the Prime Minister was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and other senior government officials.

During the ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to the late Iranian leader, describing him as a visionary statesman who dedicated decades of service to the Iranian nation and the wider Muslim world. He said Ayatollah Khamenei’s leadership would be remembered for its resilience, wisdom, and commitment to his country’s sovereignty.

The Prime Minister extended Pakistan’s heartfelt condolences to Iran’s newly appointed Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, and the people of Iran. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s support and solidarity with the brotherly nation during this period of national mourning and prayed for the late leader’s eternal peace.

A separate parliamentary delegation from Pakistan also participated in the funeral. The delegation was led by Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani and National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, and included members of parliament as well as Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.

Following the funeral prayers, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif concluded his visit to Tehran and departed for Türkiye to continue his official diplomatic engagements.

The visit reflects the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and Ira n and underscores Islamabad’s commitment to maintaining close diplomatic ties with its regional neighbour during times of both cooperation and national grief.
