Washington: Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Munir Akram has said that the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is becoming an umbrella organization for terrorist organizations in Afghanistan and Kabul authorities are sponsoring their attacks.
Addressing the UN Security Council meeting, Munir Akram sharply criticized the Afghan interim government and said that it has failed to deal with the threats posed to the region.
The Pakistani delegate emphasized that the TTP is the largest terrorist organization active in Afghanistan and attacks Pakistan from border sanctuaries.
He said that hundreds of Pakistani citizens have lost their lives as a result of TTP attacks. In addition, the BLA and Majeed Brigade are also trying to harm the economic interests of Pakistan and China.
Munir Akram clearly stated that these attacks are being supported by the Afghan authorities and Pakistan will take all necessary steps to eliminate the threat of terrorism.
The Pakistani delegate expressed deep surprise and disappointment at the lack of mention of terrorism in the UN Secretary-General’s report and said that there are more than 20 terrorist organizations in Afghanistan which pose a serious threat not only to the region but also to global peace.
He indicated that Pakistan will initiate consultations in the UN to formulate an appropriate action plan.
On this occasion, Munir Akram said that a working group for counter-terrorism will be established under the Doha Process so that more effective actions can be taken against terrorists.
