A 3-member bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, heard the appeals for cancellation of bail of the accused on May 9. While accepting the Punjab government’s request for respite, the court said that all the cases will be heard after Eid. The court delisted all the cases scheduled for May 9 and 10 this week and next week.
Zulfiqar Naqvi requested the court that the Punjab government has appointed me as a lawyer in the May 9 cases. Give me time to prepare. Chief Justice Yahya Afridi said that the May 9 cases are also scheduled for tomorrow and the day after tomorrow. In the previous hearings, the additional prosecutor appeared and asked for time. You are asking for time today. It will not work like this. This is not a single case, there are about 50 appeals.
Chief Justice Yahya Afridi said that some appeals are also regarding the transfer of cases. The matter of transfer of cases has been concluded, so take instructions from the government. The lawyer of the Punjab government requested the court to postpone the cases of this week. I will prepare for the cases of next week. The judge has been transferred, only the fine and some observations will be followed.
The Lahore High Court had granted bail to the accused on May 9. The Punjab government has approached the Supreme Court to cancel the bails.
