Lahore: In the corruption and kickbacks reference, the Accountability Court Lahore has reserved its verdict on the petition of former Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi for permanent attendance exemption.
Accountability Court Judge Zubair Shahzad Kiani heard the corruption and kickbacks reference against Pervaiz Elahi and others in Gujarat development projects. Pervaiz Elahi did not appear in the Accountability Court today, on which the court approved the petition for one-day attendance exemption.
Pervaiz Elahi has also filed a petition for permanent exemption from attendance, on which the parties completed their arguments.
The lawyers maintained that Pervaiz Elahi is old and sick, while the doctor has directed bed rest. It was requested that Anwar Hussain be appointed as a pleader to appear in place of Pervaiz Elahi.
NAB Prosecutor Waris Ali Janjua said that to appoint a pleader, Pervaiz Elahi must have a hash, Pervaiz Elahi has been appearing before, he should be summoned once.
A one-day exemption application was also filed by former Principal Secretary Punjab Assembly Muhammad Khan Bhatti.
NAB witness Deputy Secretary Local Government Amjad Ali recorded his testimony. Witness Amjad Ali stated that I have presented the record of development schemes in the court, the Gujarat development projects were approved by the Punjab Assembly and the cabinet.
The lawyers of the accused also completed the statement and cross-examination of the witness.
Former Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi and others are accused of taking kickbacks and bribes in development projects. The accountability court has indicted Pervaiz Elahi and other accused.
The accountability court adjourned further hearing on the reference against Pervaiz Elahi and others until February 27.
