A recent UN Security Council meeting expressed concern over the growing influence of ISKP in Afghanistan. The meeting revealed the planning and recruitment campaigns of Islamic State-Khorasan (IS-K).
The UN Security Council meeting described the presence of ISIS in Afghanistan as a significant global threat. The meeting said that Afghanistan has become a global recruitment and facilitation hub for ISIS-Khorasan.
The meeting said that the Islamic State-Khorasan (IS-K) is increasing its terrorist activities in Afghanistan and the region and is planning attacks in Europe. ISIS and its regional branches are posing a growing threat to international peace and security.
The Afghanistan-based Islamic State-Khorasan (IS-K) was described as one of the “most dangerous branches” of the international terrorist group. UN Under-Secretary-General Vladimir Voronko told the meeting that ISIS-K supporters are not only planning attacks in Europe but are also trying to recruit militants from Central Asia.
US Ambassador Dorothy Shea told the meeting that ISIS-K is a major global threat.
Speaking at the meeting, the Chinese ambassador said the Taliban government should take urgent steps to eliminate terrorist groups in Afghanistan.
Pakistan’s UN representative Munir Akram said Afghanistan is a central hub for recruitment and facilitation of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL-K).
The Taliban government has claimed to have reduced the impact of ISIS-K in Afghanistan, but the reality is the opposite.
