Due to differences between the Pakistan Muslim League (N) and the PPP, relations between the two key partners in the ruling coalition are being affected, with PPP Senator Saleem Mandviwala claiming that the Prime Minister’s Office is not paying attention to the directives issued by the Presidency.
The PPP leader asked, “If a directive is sent by the President of Pakistan and it is not implemented, what will happen at the grassroots level?”
He said that President Asif Ali Zardari is not happy with this situation.
Although the PPP has been quite open about its misunderstandings with the PML (N) and has threatened to leave the alliance on several occasions, the two parties have so far been able to resolve matters through high-level contacts.
In response to a question, the Prime Minister’s Coordinator Rana Ehsan Afzal told Dawn that the Prime Minister takes the instructions coming from the President’s office very seriously, but he said he was not aware of the background to Mandviwala’s claims.
The President’s Press Secretary Akhtar Munir also said he did not know what issue Saleem Mandviwala was referring to.
