Islamabad: The Judicial Commission meeting under the chairmanship of Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi is underway.
According to the agenda of the Judicial Commission meeting, the proposed rules for the appointment of judges were to be reviewed. In addition, the issue of expansion of judges of the Constitutional Bench will also be considered in the important meeting.
It should be noted that a letter from Justice Mansoor Ali Shah has also come to light before the Judicial Commission meeting to be held today. The letter written to the Secretary Judicial Commission states that there should be a mechanism for the appointment of judges for the Constitutional Bench in the rules. It is also necessary to make a mechanism for how many judges there should be in the Constitutional Bench.
The letter further states that the measure of the participation of judges in the Constitutional Bench should be fixed. How many decisions with constitutional interpretations have been written by which judge can be a measure. The commission has formed constitutional benches in the Supreme Court and Sindh High Court without setting a benchmark. I have made my position regarding the 26th Amendment clear.
