Bollywood’s famous actor Shakti Kapoor escaped a major kidnapping plot.
Police revealed that a gang had planned to kidnap the actor, but the plan failed due to Kapoor demanding a large advance payment.
These revelations came to light when the investigation into the case of actor Mushtaq Mohammad Khan, who was kidnapped from Delhi airport, was being conducted. Mushtaq Khan was held hostage in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, from where he managed to escape in a daring manner.
According to the police, the gang had trapped several celebrities on the pretext of inviting them to events. They would first give advance payments and air tickets to gain trust.
Mushtaq Khan fell victim to the same scheme and was kidnapped from Delhi airport on November 20. During his detention, the gang withdrew Rs 2 lakh from his bank account, but Khan miraculously managed to escape.
According to the police, Shakti Kapoor was also targeted by the gang, but his demand for an advance of Rs 5 lakh thwarted the kidnapping plan. Bijnor Superintendent of Police Abhishek Jha said that the gang used to target famous actors who had a great reputation among the public. The gang abandoned the plan to kidnap Kapoor due to the high demand for money.
Four members of the gang have been arrested, and a search is on for more associates, including the gang’s kingpin, Lavi alias Rahul Saini. The police have recovered Rs 1.04 lakh and other items from the arrested accused. In another case, an accused involved in the kidnapping of comedian Sunil Paul was arrested by the police during an encounter in Meerut. Accused Arjun opened fire on the police while trying to escape, but was caught.
