Islamabad: The Supreme Court has scheduled cases for the Constitutional Bench for hearing. A 6-member Constitutional Bench headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan will hear 34 cases today and tomorrow. These include a petition for disqualification of MLAs with foreign businesses and assets.
The bench includes Justice Jamal Mandokhel, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi, Justice Musarrat Hilali and Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan. The first case has been scheduled for hearing regarding environmental pollution.
This human rights case has been pending since 1993. The second case was taken suo motu notice in 2003 regarding environmental pollution. The third case is pending since 2016 regarding environmental pollution. The fourth case is the 2012 narcotics case, the fifth and sixth cases are the appointment of Deputy Commissioner Karachi, the seventh case is the review case of the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association in 2014.
Review of the direct appointment of Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa in the Balochistan High Court, a request to reschedule the 2024 general elections, a review of judgments and orders, the removal of former President Arif Alvi from office, the constitutional bench approved during the PDM era will hear the suo motu notices taken on the foreign accounts of Pakistani citizens in 2018, the case of Federal Ombudsman Yasmin Abbasi issuing a contempt notice to a Lahore High Court judge (Justice Mansoor Ali Shah), the singer Meesha Shafi harassment case, the suo motu notice case regarding the private use of the convention center, the suo motu notice case against the founder PTI on the private use of the convention center, and the suo motu notice case on the Lahore High Court’s decision on anti-terrorism.
Most of the cases that have been scheduled for hearing are apparently cases that have expired. Disposing of them will reduce the number of pending cases.
