Seven people, including four Frontier Corps (FC) personnel, were killed in three attacks in Tirah valley of Upper South Waziristan and Khyber district.
A bomb disposal vehicle of security forces was attacked with an improvised explosive device in Karam area of Ladha Tehsil of Upper South Waziristan.
After the IED attack, firing was also done by the attackers as a result of which 4 FC jawans were martyred and 5 injured.
The condition of 2 of the injured personnel is said to be critical and they have been shifted to Scouts Hospital in Wana.
Sources say that the security forces immediately surrounded the area and started a search operation.
In another incident, militants targeted a vehicle in Daza Ghandai area, resulting in the martyrdom of an officer of the Counter-Terrorism Department and injuries to two civilians.
2 children were killed and 5 injured when a mortar shell fired from an unknown location fell in the Tirah Valley of Khyber.
Sources say that a group of students of Hashim Khan Kale, a government primary school in Bhutan Sharif area of Bar Qamber Khel, were going home when a mortar fired from an unknown direction fell on nearby houses and a mosque.
Due to the mortar shell, some houses and a mosque caught fire in Sira China area, while 6 children, including a girl, were seriously injured due to the pellets emanating from the mortar.
According to residents, 10-year-old Abidullah and his sister Kulsoom succumbed to their injuries while being taken to Peshawar hospital while other injured students were given medical aid at the hospital.
Although it was not immediately confirmed who fired the mortar shell, some government circles speculated that the mortar was fired as a result of a fight between two rival factions of the outlawed TTP, which were heavily armed. They were targeting each other’s locations.
