Petra: Experts have recently discovered an ancient tomb in Jordan that also contains human remains.
Carved into the pink sandstone cliffs of the ancient city of Petra in central Jordan is an elaborate monument known as the Khazna, or treasure, where experts have discovered an ancient tomb.
Buried beneath the building, archaeologists recently discovered a tomb containing at least 12 human remains and artifacts estimated to be at least 2,000 years old.
Archaeologists led by Dr. Pierce Paul Cressman, executive director of the American Center for Research, unearthed the ancient tomb.
The expedition was studying the treasury after years of speculation that the two tombs found below the left side of the monument in 2003 were not the only secret underground chambers, but the theory had not been confirmed until now.
Cressman and his team used ground-penetrating radar to see if the chambers on the left, where the original tombs were found, were similar to the ones on the right.
The excavations revealed strong similarities between the two banks and were proof that they had found tombs beneath the Treasury, but permission from the Jordanian government was needed to dig.
