MUMBAI: Renowned Indian musician AR Rahman has recorded a 30-minute performance video in support of US presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
The purpose of this initiative is to increase the popularity of Kamala Harris before the presidential election in the United States on November 5. By recording this video, AR Rahman has become the first international artist from South Asia to endorse a US presidential candidate.
Shekhar Narasimhan, chairperson of the Indo-American fundraiser Trust Asian American Pacific Islanders (AAPI) Victory Fund, said, “With this performance, AR Rahman has added his voice to the group of leaders and artists who are in America. Stand for progress and representation.” AAPI Victory Fund is a political committee that strives to inspire and mobilize eligible voters.
After announcing AR Rahman’s special video for the US presidential campaign, Shekhar Narasimhan also said, “It’s not just a musical event, it’s an action for our communities that we want to see in the future. Take it and vote.”
Additionally, a video teaser featuring AR Rahman and Indiaspora founder MR Rangaswamy has also been released, this teaser is also aimed at energizing the performance of the workers.
According to a press release, the show will include some of AR Rahman’s most loved songs along with messages promoting Kamala Harris’ support and commitment to the AAPI community. The video recording will be broadcast on AAPI Victory Fund’s YouTube channel on October 13 at 8 PM.
