Islamabad: An application was filed in the Islamabad High Court to make the draft of the proposed constitutional amendments public.
Former Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar has filed an application in the Islamabad High Court regarding the proposed constitutional amendments, in which the draft of the constitutional amendment has been requested to be made public.
In the petition filed in the Supreme Court, it has been argued that public opinion was taken in the 18th constitutional amendment and similarly the public at large should have the right to vote in the current constitutional amendment. Passing the constitutional amendment in one day is a negation of democratic and parliamentary principles.
The petitioner said that the National Assembly’s own rules also require publication of any proposed legislation in the Official Gazette. It is requested from the court that at least the public at large should get 8 weeks time to give their opinion on this constitutional amendment.
