Rawalpindi: The 12 appeals scheduled for hearing after 7 years and 10 days of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto’s murder case were once again postponed indefinitely after a short hearing.
This year, this most important case was heard for the second time. President Asif Zardari replaced his lawyer Sardar Latif Khan Khosa in 4 appeals and presented his lawyer in his place Farooq H. Naik, while the convicted criminals police officers former CPO Saud Aziz and then SP City Khurram Shahzad also. He replaced his lawyer Prime Minister Nazir Tarar and appointed Osama Amin Qazi as a new lawyer.
A bad accused in the case in which these two lawyers were presented yesterday went missing after his release from Adiala Jail. The judge of the court, Justice Mirza Waqas Rauf, inquired why the accused is missing. The woman police SP replied that the police have been looking for him for 7 years. Expressing displeasure, the court ordered CPO Rawalpindi to appear with the accused in his personal capacity on a future date and adjourned the hearing indefinitely.
A total of 12 appeals were heard against the Benazir Bhutto assassination case decision. High Court Rawalpindi Justice Mirza Waqas Rauf and Justice Abdul Aziz Bench conducted the hearing. Sardar Latif Khosa, the former lawyer of President Asif Zardari, submitted a written statement of withdrawal of his power of attorney, on which the power of attorney was revoked. Benazir Bhutto was assassinated on December 27, 2007 at Liaquat Bagh Chowk.
On August 30, 2017, the court sentenced two police officers to 17-17 years in prison and a fine of Rs. Hasnain, Rashid were acquitted.
Asif Zardari has appealed to start the trial of accused Pervez Musharraf in absentia, while the government has declared the appeal of President Asif Zardari ineffective against the accused Pervez Musharraf to remove his name from the accused list due to his death. A written request for dismissal has also been made. Pervez Musharraf’s death report has also been submitted to the court. The former president has demanded the acquittal and punishment of all the five bad accused. The accused did not appear despite the summons by the late former president General Musharraf.
