Lahore: The Jamaat-e-Islami delegation presented their demands in a meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner.
A delegation of Jamaat-e-Islami led by Liaquat Baloch met Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja. On this occasion, demands were placed before the Chief Election Commissioner on behalf of the delegation.
Later talking to the media, Liaquat Baloch said that local body elections should be held in Islamabad. Malicious legislation was resorted to for postponing local body elections 4 times. He said that the people of Punjab, the largest province of the country, are also deprived of the right to local elections.
He said that the Election Commission of Pakistan should protect the voters of Islamabad from malicious legislative tactics. Election Commission of Pakistan should take disciplinary action against whoever is creating obstacles in the local elections or send a reference to the Supreme Court.
Liaquat Baloch said that on the order of the Supreme Court, the election constituencies for the local government are the responsibility of the Election Commission of Pakistan. Federal and provincial governments have to legislate in Islamabad and provinces.
He said that due to the government’s interference in the Karachi Mayorship elections, the Election Commission of Pakistan was creating a picture of paralysis and helplessness. The Election Commission of Pakistan should decide on the basis of the real resolution form 45 of the public mandate of the 2024 elections. The results of the 2018 and 2013 elections have also been controversial. The 2024 elections have exposed the country to political, economic, social and constitutional rights crises.
