Islamabad: The Accountability Court has reserved its verdict on the acquittal pleas of Hassan Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz, the sons of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Accountability Court judge Nasir Javed Rana will pronounce the verdict at 2 pm.
During the hearing, the NAB prosecutor said that we have not filed an appeal against the acquittal of Maryam Nawaz, Hasan and Hussain Nawaz are accused of conspiracy and aiding and abetting, while the main accused in their case has been acquitted.
Qazi Misbah Advocate said that the Islamabad High Court acquitted Nawaz Sharif, relying on the documents on which the court acquitted Maryam Nawaz, Nawaz Sharif was acquitted.
Qazi Misbah Advocate also read the short decision of Nawaz Sharif’s acquittal. He said in arguments that NAB had not filed an appeal against the acquittal of Maryam Nawaz, if the main accused in the case is acquitted, the case cannot proceed on the charge of aiding and abetting, in the flagship reference, Nawaz Sharif was acquitted by the trial court and NAB had withdrawn its appeal on 29 November 2023 against the decision of the trial court.
The petitioner’s lawyer Qazi Misbah Advocate said that now the decision of the accountability court has become final, the third case was the Al-Azizia reference, the trial court sentenced Nawaz Sharif and on December 12, 2023, the Islamabad High Court acquitted Nawaz Sharif in the Al-Azizia reference. Acquitted.
NAB Prosecutor Afzal Qureshi said that in the Al-Azizia reference, we had withdrawn Nawaz Sharif’s appeal to increase his sentence.
Qazi Misbah Advocate said that NAB did not even appeal to the Supreme Court against the decision of acquittal, even if all the evidences are accepted, there is no chance of punishment.
