RIYADH: Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has called Iranian President Dr. Masoud Al-Mabazikian and congratulated him on his success in the presidential elections.
According to Anadolu Agency, Saudi Prime Minister Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Wednesday called Iran’s newly elected President Masoud Pizshakyan and congratulated him on his election victory.
During the telephonic conversation, the two leaders also discussed strengthening bilateral relations and promoting cooperation in various fields.
It should be remembered that Saudi Arabia severed diplomatic relations with Iran in 2016 when the Saudi embassy in Tehran was attacked over the execution of a Shiite cleric in Saudi Arabia. Diplomatic relations between the countries were restored after seven years.
Iran’s reformist candidate and former health minister Pizshakyan won the July 5 presidential election with 53.7 percent of the vote. His conservative opponent, Saeed Jalili, won 44.4 percent of the vote, according to official results, which were held on May 19 after President Ibrahim Raisi was killed in a helicopter crash.
