LAHORE: The High Court dismissed the petition against increasing the lifetime disqualification period in Parliament to five years.
Justice Shahid Bilal Hasan pronounced a reserved verdict on the plea of Azhar Siddique Advocate. Justice Shahid Bilal Hasan heard the petition of citizen Shabir Ismail.
The counsel for the federal government had opposed the applications during the hearing.
According to the petitioner, the Parliament amended the law of disqualification for life by five years, but according to the rules, the law of disqualification for life cannot be amended by Parliament through certain members.
In the petition, it was requested that the court should declare the law of fixing the period of 5 years of disqualification invalid.
