Islamabad: Pakistan People’s Party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari took oath as the President of Pakistan for the second time.
The oath-taking ceremony was held in Islamabad in which Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faiz Isa administered the oath of office to Asif Zardari. Governors and Chief Ministers of all four provinces were present in the ceremony, Chief Minister KP Ali Amin Gandapur did not participate in the ceremony.
Former President Dr. Arif Alvi, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Leader of Muslim League-N Nawaz Sharif, Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq, Bilawal Bhutto, Bakhtawar Bhutto, Asifa Bhutto Zardari participated in the ceremony. Besides, Army Chief General Asim Munir and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza also attended the event.
Yesterday, polling was held in the national and four provincial assemblies to elect the country’s 14th president. The presiding officer in the National Assembly was Chief Justice Islamabad High Court Amir Farooq, Senator Sherry Rehman was the polling agent of Asif Ali Zardari in the presidential election, while Senator Shafique Tareen was appointed as the polling agent of Mehmood Khan Achakzai.
According to the Election Commission, the results of the polling stations established in the Parliament House and the four provincial assemblies for the presidential election were received by the Election Commission. According to the results, Asif Ali Zardari, the candidate of the government alliance, won the election by getting 411 electoral votes, while Mahmood Khan Achakzai, the presidential candidate of the Sunni Alliance Council, got 181 electoral votes.
Army Chief Focus
More than 70 Zahid ambassadors including the United States, Great Britain, France, Germany, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE participated in the President’s House ceremony. Army Chief General Asim Munir was the center of the ceremony.
On the arrival of Army Chief Syed Asim Muneer, the attendees shouted slogans of Pakistan Army Zindabad. The Army Chief placed his hands on the heads of Asifa Bhutto and Bakhtawar Bhutto, the Army Chief met and shook hands with all the participants sitting in the front row.
Nawaz Sharif was sitting on one side in the front row, the army chief got up and went to Nawaz Sharif’s seat and shook hands with him. DGISI Nadeem Anjum also met Nawaz Sharif at the swearing-in ceremony. DGISI shook hands with Nawaz Sharif and hugged.
The Army Chief also met Bilawal Bhutto in the President’s House, the Army Chief and Bilawal Bhutto had a long conversation. Asif Ali Zardari’s grandchildren also became the center of attention in the ceremony, former caretaker chief minister of Punjab Mohsin Naqvi went to shake hands with Nawaz Sharif at his seat and inquired about his well-being.
