Hangzhou: A new study has revealed that the bright lights of big cities increase the risk of stroke in humans.
According to research conducted by Chinese researchers, artificial lights at night affect blood flow in the brain in a way that increases the risk of stroke.
The researchers reported that the risk of cerebrovascular disease increased by 43 percent in people who were exposed to the most artificial lights at night. It blocks the arteries that stop the blood supply to the brain and causes bleeding in the brain itself, these two conditions are the cause of stroke.
“Based on the findings, we advise people, especially those living in urban areas, to protect themselves from artificial city lights,” researcher Jian Bingwang of Zhejiang University School of Medicine in China said in a news release. Keep it safe or at least minimize it.
The researchers also said that a fifth of the world’s population is living in a light-polluted environment as a result of overuse of artificial light.
