Kabul: Incessant rains and snowfall in Afghanistan have caused widespread destruction and normal life has been suspended.
According to the World News Agency, the eastern provinces of Nuristan and Panjshir of Afghanistan have been the most affected by the rains and snowfall, and these areas have been cut off from other parts of the country.
Taliban officials said that 20 houses were destroyed as a result of landslides in Nuristan province and around 50 people were buried in the debris while the relief operations were facing difficulties due to bad weather.
During the rescue operations, 25 bodies have been removed from the wreckage, while 8 people have been transferred to the hospital with serious injuries, of which 3 are in a critical condition, and the death toll is expected to increase.
Many people are still buried under the debris, for whom the rescue work has had to stop due to continuous snowfall.
It should be noted that since the Taliban took power in August 2021, Afghanistan’s assets have been frozen while international organizations have also stopped funding, which has led to a shortage of machinery and manpower needed to deal with sudden disasters.
