KARACHI: Divers from Karachi, who are fond of deep water swimming, had a fascinating sighting of the endangered whale shark in the deep waters of Charna Island at the confluence of Sindh and Balochistan.
The divers not only captured this unique scene with the eye of a waterproof camera, but also touched the body and tail of the massive whale shark during filming. Whale sharks are also called tiger sharks by local fishermen because of the distinctive white spots on their bodies.
According to Moazzam Khan, technical advisor of WDBLF, whale shark is considered to be the largest fish in the world, which is called Indhi Mangar in Sindhi and Baran in Balochi. Indiscriminate hunting, including the presence of countless launches for fishing and the invention of new gear, has become globally endangered for a variety of reasons.
He says that in the 1970s, regular hunting of this species of fish was common, for which a specific type of weapon was used, a harpoon, which simultaneously consisted of a sharp iron spear-like device and a rope, which was thrown from a distance. , which resulted in whale sharks being hunted.
According to Moazzam Khan, there is a regular area near Charna Island known as Important Shark and Reef Area (ISRA), this area extends from the north of Charna to the beaches of Ormara. They also come up to the surface of the sea to bake.
He says that 15 years ago, Dibello Dibello F began training fishermen to protect whale sharks, and over the past 8 years, about 140 whale shark sightings and releases have resulted from this continuation. In 2016, the governments of Sindh and Balochistan imposed a ban on whale shark hunting due to the efforts of Dbilodbelowf.
According to technical advisor Dbilo Dbilwaif Muazzam Ali Khan, whale sharks do not have teeth, but they attack with their tails in case of danger, that’s why amateur swimmers should avoid approaching or touching them as much as possible.
